10th Cavalry Regiment Combat History

The 10th Cavalry Regiment (Colored) served in the 2nd Cavalry Division's Black cavalry brigade structure but did not fight as a division regiment. It appeared in the 1941 2nd Cavalry Division (Horse), assigned under the 4th Cavalry Brigade while the division trained at Fort Riley, joined the Second-Third Army Maneuvers, and returned to Kansas before inactivation in July 1942.

The regiment was again listed in the 1943 2nd Cavalry Division (Horse) (Colored), activated at Fort Clark, Texas. That division moved to Camp Patrick Henry in February 1944, sailed from Hampton Roads late that month, and reached North Africa on March 9. The 10th Cavalry was inactivated on March 10, and the division itself was inactivated on May 10, 1944. Its personnel and assets were used to form service and engineer units. The division received a European Theater credit without battle inscription, but no combat actions or battle casualties are identified for the regiment in this assignment.
