14th Cavalry Regiment Combat History

The 14th Cavalry Regiment's record in the 2nd Cavalry Division was limited to the Army's prewar and early-war horse-cavalry mobilization. The division was activated at Fort Riley, Kansas, on April 1, 1941, and the 14th Cavalry served in its 3rd Cavalry Brigade with the 2nd Cavalry Regiment. The division moved in August 1941 to take part in the Second-Third Army Maneuvers, then returned to Fort Riley on October 4.

This was the regiment's only recorded service as part of the 2nd Cavalry Division. The division remained in the United States, did not enter combat, and was inactivated on July 15, 1942, as the Army moved away from horse-cavalry divisions and redirected manpower into formations better suited to the war then developing. Later 14th Cavalry combat service belonged to other cavalry organizations and is not treated here as 2nd Cavalry Division service. No campaign credits or battle casualties are identified for the regiment in this division assignment.
